This is any musical composition, whether it has been recorded or not. For example, the composer and lyricist of the work "Mad World" was Roland Orzabal. |
Recording: |
This is a recording of a work. For example, "Mad World" was first recorded by Tears for Fears and released on 20 Sep 1982 as a single, and was later recorded by Michael Andrews feat. Gary Jules and released in 2001. |
Release: |
This is a publication of a recording, usually in the form of an album, a single, or an EP. For example, the album "Donnie Darko: Music from the Original Motion Picture Score", which contained the Gary Jules cover of "Mad World" was released in 2001. As of July 2024, it has had 8 different releases, which can be thought of as 8 different editions of the album. |
Artist: |
This is anyone involved in the making of the music. An artist can be a composer, a singer, a musician, an engineer, an editor, etc, or a group of artists. For example, the artist Tears for Fears is a band from the UK which was founded in the year 1981 by Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal. |
Credit: |
This is how an artist is credited, usually in combination with another artist or artists. For example, Tears for Fears has been credited as part of Al Corley / Tears for Fears, Chosen Few vs. Tears for Fears, and Tears for Fears feat. Julian Lennon, among others. |
